This is my crazy journey to get back in shape and lose the last 11lbs. After being a gestational surrogate & enduring 88 days of bed rest (55 days spent on hospital bed rest at Johns Hopkins), I delivered S & B's healthy "twinkies" on August 6th 2011. Now, it's time to get down to business. Follow me, gripe/moan/whine on my exercise & diet routine to get back down to 125lbs (pre-pregnancy weight). It's definitely going to be a wild ride on the scale! Let's just hope my husband and 3 year old son can handle it!! HAHA!

taking it easy
What a nice Sunday today was. I raked in the Thanksgiving savings at the Commissary. The only thing I didn't buy was a turkey - ha! They always have the best price, but this year they're only $1.20/lb. There's no way I'm paying that. I'll just hafta shop the local circulars.
After lunch, Ray helped with the SHIRT. Once we did the first sheet for iron on transfer, I realized I should have kept the font all black not white w/outline. I thought it was going to just do the letters not everything. Blah - that's what prototypes are for right? The white letters will have to wait until I get the tees massed produced. Hopefully, I'll be able to "retire" the original on Thursday when I step on the scale again. I'll tweak it back to black (for now).
It's nice having a real "day off" every once and awhile. Now, I'm going to enjoy Elf and call it a night! The real "work" begins TOMORROW!
Stats:
Pedometer - 6049 steps
Food:
1. cup of coffee w/splenda and fat free half & half
2. 1/2 turkey/ham club sandwich w/light mayo, lettuce, 1 slice of muenster cheese & tomato
3. frozen chicken nuggets - 8 (prepared in the microwave) w/ranch dressing to dip
4. cup of hot cocoa w/handful of mini marshmallows (prepared w/water)
5. pot roast w/onions, carrots & potatoes topped w/butter
Until Tomorrow,
Whitney, her pooch & saddlebags

enjoying the weather
It was FA-reeezing this morning. I figured I would just go to the gym during naptime. Maryland weather is crazy! It's now gorgeous out and 60 degrees. On a side note, the weather issue does have me freaking out a little about the race. Also, I just realized this morning that the race is the week AFTER NEXT -- YIKES! I am just praying that it's not cold and rainy...very good possibility. Anyways back to what I was saying, I went out to the lake and ran. Wow did I feel great, until the drymouth hit! Seriously, I don't get how I can get that when all I day I'm CONSTANTLY drinking water. Even if we go out somewhere, I have my water bottle with me. I didn't keep time, but by going off of my songs playing, I think I went a little faster.
The SHIRT has been started (the prototype). It will be red with white lettering like a stop sign. I got my own transfer sheets from Walmart and created my design this morning. The SHIRT will be created tomorrow - mauahahaha! I can NOT wait to wear it. I wish I could figure out how to install a tiny camera on it, so I can see everyone's reactions when they read it. I do plan on having a "shirt patrol" on my new blogsite, that if you see me or someone wearing a shirt take a pic and send it in. That's definitely down the road a bit, though. My brain has been pretty much going NONSTOP with ideas. I have been asking random people if they would wear the SHIRT. The response has been about 50/50 :) Actually, that is better than I anticipated. Like I said, I'm just an average stay at home mom from trying to make a difference in the world.
Stats:
Ran 2.6 miles
Pedometer - 12150 steps
Food:
1. grande nonfat extra shot pumpkin spice latte
2. left overs : 1 pork chop w/lite alfredo sauce, green beans & red peppers
3. 1/2 bottle of low cal gatorade
4. the other 1/2 of my chicken chimichanga w/sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo & side of black beans
Until Tomorrow,
Whitney, her pooch and saddlebags

I guess you'd call it a "free pass"
I suppose you could also call it my "get out of jail free" card. No working out for me today...not because I'm slacking.
This morning we had our family Christmas picture taken. Ray wore his dress blues uniform -- pardon my drool! He was looking quite studly. For some reason, JP just didn't want to smile right. Literally, that was his "best" face. Uhhh 3 year olds! I did get a sweet deal from Picture People - free 8x10 :) Now, I just have to pic a card from snapfish.com.
Before we headed to the mall, we went down the commissary to pick up my friend's baby shower cake. It turned out SO cute!! They're waiting to find out the sex, so it's this cute gender neutral stork design. Us moms are heading out for Mexican for her "shower", while the dads & kids hang out here. I can NOT wait til 6pm! It can't come fast enough. I would love to have a drink or 2, but I just don't like tequila. I'll hafta see if they have any other options besides margaritas. Otherwise, I'll just "save" my drinks for Thanksgiving (I have a bottle of Moscato in the pantry just waiting for me)!
Time to help Ray get things ready for the guys night - haha!
Stats:
Pedometer (at 5:08pm) - 3705 steps
Food:
1. cup of coffee w/splenda and fat free half & half (LOVE THE NEW PIKE PLACE ROAST K-CUP)
2. Soup & Salad w/ 2 breadsticks @ Olive Garden
3. 1 pineapple margarita (realized yup I still don't like tequila)
4. 1/2 chicken chimichanga w/guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream (eating the other 1/2 for dinner tomorrow)
5. slice of Becky's baby shower marble cake - delish!
Until Tomorrow,

The ball is rolling...
First things first, the scale read...133lbs! That now takes my BMI to 24.3 -- a couple more notches :)
Ray and I ran the lake this morning. Once again, he tried to up my pace. I was really debating on walking the last half because I was just tired. From somewhere, I grabbed some "energy" and ran the whole thing. Ray told me I ran the 2.6 miles in 33 minutes with some disappointment in his voice. I told him straight out "You're lucky I ran the entire lake because I wanted to walk! So I'll take those 33 minutes gladly!"
When we were running, this great idea popped into my head. What if other people could take the shirt challenge as well? I thought I would test that question out on some unsuspecting people -- the baristas at the Target starbucks. I briefly explained my blog and the shirt challenge to both of them and asked if they would do it. One was unsure and the other said yes! Both did agree that this was a great idea and to let them know when it starts. A couple of my friends said they would take the challenge as well. Right now, I'm in the process of getting the shirts started and starting a website (just bought it an hour ago)...big things from just your average stay at home mom! Also, I'm hoping to get my gym involved as well. I'm ready for the rollercoaster ride to start!
Stats:
Ran 2.6 miles

Food:

2. 1/2 bottle of low cal gatorade
3. grande extra shot skim eggnog latte w/splenda
4. leftovers - 1 porkchop w/lite alfredo sauce, green beans & red pepper

Seriously - just ADMIT IT!
You can say I "saw" the light today. I am so sick of people lying to themselves about their weight and what their BMI definition is. After only having 3 responses to my facebook status of basically who has the guts to post what their BMI is and define it, I am ready to take my own challenge. Of course I posted what I am...24.7 : healthy (5'2). Hopefully tomorrow when I step on the scale, I will lower that number even more (of course I will post). I'm sure most people actually clicked my calculator link and were not able to come to terms with what it said -- denial. They have those standards for a reason. It would be devastating to see that you're overweight, obese etc. Why just live in denial when you can CHOOSE to do something about it! Why keep making excuses? That just boggles my mind. Especially if you have kids, what are you telling them? Look at me...I'm a stay at home mom not some personal trainer (like that trainer who put on all that weight & is starting to shed it). I'm average, and I'M DOING SOMETHING! As I mentioned above, I'm ready to start my own challenge. I'm currently in the process of making shirts that I will wear whenever I'm working out (aka everyday pretty much). It will say what my current weight is and BMI. It's time to take action and OWN UP!
here's my last 10lbs (well hopefully 9lbs left as of tomorrow morning**)
Stats:
Ran 2 miles at 5.0 mph + 1/2 mile at 6.0 mph

baby "mobies"
JP wanted to watch more baby mobies (aka home videos) last night. That's why I didn't get a chance to write. He's too funny watching himself -- "That's the JP baby!!" "That's my daddy on the TB" and the list goes on :) So yesterday...
I ran 3 miles @ 5.0 mph!! I took a "small" pee break after the 2nd mile, but I did it!! Watching 27 Dresses, really made the run more "fun." Seeing all the drama made me forget about my calf tightness. That cardio theatre feature is awesome! After the run, I determined that my "goal" for the 5k is 36 minutes. I need to keep my 5.0 mph throughout to give me my 12 minute miles. (Ray is STILL trying to get me to go faster but that's just my pace) I did my abs again after the run -- really felt it. My legs were a bit different. I just did some of the exercises the trainer taught me. It's good to change it up and keep things fresh. I did single & double leg extensions and dead lifts.
I'll be stepping on the scale tomorrow - say a prayer to the scale god for me! I will say when I was at Marshalls looking for a new dress for our Christmas picture, I'm pretty much cellulite free on the back of my thighs!!! Take that bed rest!! I found this gorgeous Michael Kors dress size 4 - fit my butt of course but was way too big on my top half! The dress I did find is a size XS because it's a wrap dress and floats away from my behind to give it room HA! I'm still going to have Ray take a pic of my "problem areas," so everyone can see what the last 10ish lbs look like.
Stats:

Pedometer - over 13k
Food:

2. 1/2 bottle of low cal gatorade
3. salad & 3 rolls at this great new sushi restaurant (I did leave 2 pieces on the plate...I really should have only ordered 2 rolls -- O well next time*)
4. 1 pork chop w/lite alfredo sauce, green beans & red pepper

Ahhhh
JP finally took a nap this afternoon :) How lovely it has been...finally being able to relax. I'm listening to the Christmas music station on tv! Ahhh my happy place! So I better write this quick because he's due to wake up any minute -- yikes!!
The gym went great this morning. I ran a solid 2 miles at 5.0 mph and felt really good. They have this neat cardio theatre where you can actually watch a movie. Today's movie was Avatar. It definitely made the 24 minutes go by a lot faster. I cut out the chest track today from arms. I just wanted to make sure I would have enough time to run to Target to get the new Michael Buble Christmas album -- hehehe! During the shoulder track, I noticed my push ups seemed easier. Ray mentioned the other day that after I'm done running I should do my abs right away because they're super fatigued or something. Well, I did just that -- felt great and think I'll keep doing that. When I finished arms, I ran a fast 1/2 mile at 6.0 mph to finish up. After Target, I had to grab JP from school. We ate a quick lunch and headed out to the park...it was gorgeous outside today. I was able to rack up quite a few steps even though he didn't want to walk the little loop trail. Well I need to officially sign me and Ray up for the race...

Just in case...
It IS November which means it's cold/flu season. For that reason, I made myself run this morning. I wanted to see, if come race time and I'm sick, I could still make it. Ray and JP tagged along. By no means do we have a "jogging stroller," but Ray was kind enough to push JP around the lake. The deal was if he pushed he called the pace - uh! We also went around the lake in the other direction which felt weird. Ya know what though...I DID IT! He also said we cut 1 - 1 1/2 minute off our time with the "new" pace. Another little tidbit*, he will never push our stroller for a run again LMAO! From now on, we'll just run together when JP's in school. I am happy to be going back in the gym tomorrow. I did run to the urgent care this morning to make sure I wasn't getting an ear infection. It's just fluid in my right ear and a whole lot of congestion. This new nasal steriod spray the doc prescribed has made a world of difference for my congestion, and the ibuprofen has helped the ear inflammation. Hopefully, tomorrow I'll really start feeling better. The packers win tonight definitely made me feel better! 8-0 baby!!!

Recap!
Alright alright here's the past couple days... (fyi I definitely have a cold now -- boo!)
11/3 : Ray and I ran the lake once (2.6 miles). I was really "hurting" that day. I'm very thankful that we didn't have any extra time to run farther. I always wear an ankle brace on my right foot, well since that day, I now where a brace on my left foot too. Ray said because of all the hills, my ankles could be acting up since I just run flat on the treadmill. Eh, what am I gonna do? Ex-skater injuries will always be a part of my life -- at least the new brace is working great! I know ex-dancers and gymnasts can also have the same issues. Also, my left knee was hurting a bit too. I'm not exactly sure what my pedometer was, but I remember it was over 14k!
11/4: The cold came back - just really awful head congestion. We just ran around all day doing errands. My calves were pretty sore, and my ankle wasn't very happy either. I just focused on my steps -- over 12k! I didn't really eat much -- a cup of coffee & homemade beef stew for dinner (all day). That's when you know I'm sick...no appetite!
11/5: I really felt like crap yesterday. The congestion was crazy. Walking around in a fog isn't fun :( We just ran some more errands. Despite drinking a cup of coffee for breakfast & a grande gingerbread latte, it still felt like I was going to fall asleep at any moment. My pedometer was only 7k -- not surprised. I was in bed at 730pm. blah!

Drum Roll...
The almighty scale God loved me this morning...135lbs!!! Now, I'm officially "in" the final stretch with the last 10lbs left :) I am going to try and have Ray take some pics of what the "last 10lbs" actually looks like.
This morning, Ray and I hit the lake trail. I really focused on pace. Ray did try to "rush" me once, but I quickly told him to shut up and let me run ;-) The new songs I downloaded on my Ipod really helped keep me going strong. I RAN THE ENTIRE LAKE AND 1/2!!! When we got to the "end", I was like time check. He told me no, and I told him hey I wanna keep running so give me the time (wanted to make sure we'd have enough time to shower & pick up JP). He happily reported that it was only 1015am which meant we ran the 2.6 miles (1 time around) in about 26 minutes!! I think he was a little surprised that I was able to keep going. All I said was I'll go till I can't run anymore. Once again, he tried to "rush" me. I said hey I know the hills are coming so it'll tire me out soon enough. I made it to the other 1/2 of the lake which totaled the run at 3.3ish miles (walked the last 1/2 to finish) --FARTHEST YET!!! It really set in that I can RUN the WHOLE race. That's why it was so important for me to run with him but resist the urge to chase him. I just need to keep control of my pace, and then I CAN DO IT!!
Stats:
Ran - 3.3 miles
Walk - 1.9 miles
Pedometer - 14417 steps
Food:
1. coffee w/splenda & fat free half and half
2. 1/2 bottle of low cal gatorade
3. Wendy's grilled chicken sandwich w/lettuce & tomato
4. fiber one bar
5. 1 slice of cheese pizza and handful of broccoli, cauliflower, cherry tomatoes & carrots w/ranch dip
6. fiber one bar

Only 4**
Yesterday was filled with fun and no working out. I spent the morning in JP's class for all their Halloween fun -- too cute! Seeing him in school is just crazy because he really is growing up. After school, I had to run a few errands on base. Thank the heavens, he did take a nap. He was chomping at the bit when he woke up for Noah to come over, so they could go trick - o - treating. I made my famous Gouda Gravy Chicken & Mashed Potatoes for everyone, and we were all out the door at 7pm. The boys were just hilarious. They were fighting a lot to see who would ring the doorbells. Noah pretty much won every time because he's taller LOL! Even though I didn't workout, the trick - o - treating helped up my steps on the pedometer :) When it was all said and done, we were home about 830pm. I told Becky to eat a Reese's cup for me -- I wasn't going to eat any. Well, Bill had made zombies for us (minus Becky) earlier as our "treat." One drink was all I needed (if you've had one you know what I mean). By the time, I had gotten out of the shower the drunk "munchies" started!! I ate all JP's reese's cups...it was only 4! I'm not even sweating it ;-)
Speaking of sweating, today's workout was the most sweat I've produced in a LONG time. Janice was at the gym, so that really helped me push myself harder (always love competition LOL). I ran 2.7 miles!!!!! I pretty much ran the last 1/2 mile at 7mph. To get to the 3 miles, I walked the remaining .3 mile at 4 mph. Really, I thought I might puke. It was AWESOMELY SUCKY! Cars 2 came out today, so I had to cut down my time a little bit. Legs day got reduced down to just squat & back tracks with fire hydrants. Really, I was ok with that -- legs were feeling like jello! Also, we took a nice walk tonight -- gorgeous out! JP was really hoping to see some deer like last time. Kids were out at soccer practice, so we didn't see any tonight.
Wish me luck -- stepping on the scale tomorrow morning***
Stats:
ran 2.7 miles, walked .3 miles

3. bowl of leftover ziti
4. ham/turkey club sandwich on wheat w/light mayo, lettuce, pickle spear, cucumber, tomato & muenster cheese

New Plan**
Yea, I'm definitely sick with something. I feel better today. Nothing to0 exciting happening today...just taking it easy.
The new plan on running...I talked to Ray about what I should do as far as stringing my 5 minute 1/2 mile chunks together. I'll be running 2 miles straight at a 5mph pace and after my legs or arms tracks I'll do the last mile at 5.5mph. I did actually run outside, around centennial park lake, Friday morning. Really, I started out great but the darn hills!!! I am guessing I ran about 1.5 miles straight. We also decided that we'll both run the lake on Thursdays (hopefully Janice will join us too!) while JP's at school. The lake is a total of 2.6 miles plus the stupid hills, so it'll be good practice. After the race, I'll go back to my normal routine of spreading out the running. Hopefully by then, I'll be able to up my speed to possibly 6 mph. I'm weirdly excited and nervous about the race. I have to register us this week. **Just found JP at the kitchen table eating Halloween candy when he's supposed to be napping -- OVAY!!** Oh, something else I added to my workout are barbies to really work my obliques. I did each side for a song, so it totaled about 6 minutes...definitely feel it today.
Out of desperation, I wore Ray's jeans yesterday LMAO! He won't let me buy anything new until I'm at goal weight. He's a 31x30. They were so comfy, and a couple weeks ago they didn't fit! I'm almost there -- little victories. Seriously, I will be wearing his jeans haha ;-) Well here are some pics of the last couple days....
Stats:
Pedometer (@ 254pm) - 9664 steps
Food:
1. cup of coffee w/splenda & fat free half and half
2. 1 reese's cup
3. homemade chicken noodle soup
4. for dinner it'll be leftover ziti w/maybe a cup of hot cocoa (made w/water) & handful of marshmallows -- we'll see how I'm feeling ;-)

Catch up!!
Busy, busy, busy to say the least! I'm seriously almost half asleep typing this post. The past couple days have been full of candy as in early trick-o-treating w/our little man and his pals :) I'll post the pics tomorrow. Last night was trunk -o- treat at Janice's mom's church. The night before was the main street Laurel trick -o-treating. JP and his friends were sooo funny and sooo cute! Ok seriously, I think I did just fall asleep for a little bit or maybe I was just really staring into space. I think I'm coming down w/something :( I feel very congested through my lower forehead and sinuses -- boo! (no Hallowen pun intended) Blah....

Too tired
All this running has definitely started to get to me. Hence the reason why, I didn't write last night. I was just exhausted. Don't you go thinking I'm off the band wagon or cheating! Yesterday was legs and 3 miles. It got a little dicey around 2 miles, because I started cramping again. I just fought through that 1/2 mile, and they went away -- thank goodness! Because of JP's field trip (first one EVER hehe), I went to the gym in the afternoon. That felt a little weird, but it was ok. I'm just such a morning workout person, that it really messes with my "chi" if I change the time. On the field trip note, he had soo much fun. It was adorable seeing him ride the big school bus for the first time. I haven't uploaded any of the recent pics from my camera yet, but once I do I'll post them. JP and Noah (his bff) were just having a blast with all the animals, going on the hayride, picking pumpkins and riding a horse!!
Back to today...worked out this morning - arms and 3 miles. There was no cramping today just real fatigue. That's going to be the challenge I feel. We did come to the decision yesterday that we are all going to try (well minus Becky because she's pregnant) to do the turkey trot! (I hope that Janice and her hubby want to do it too -- if they're in town) They have one by their house that they ran last year. Apparently, it's mostly downhill. That's a great plus! I have a month-ish to get better. I'm just wondering when I need to start actually doing 3 miles in a row and not just 1/2 mile chunks strung together -- YIKES! I'll have to consult the running "gods" for that one. I did say to myself today when I was running, "2 miles is definitely easier." Never thought I would ever utter those words. I did have a reward this afternoon well more like relaxation. Finally, I got my haircut! Last time I went was right after the twins were born. It looks so pretty again :)

NOT wicked fit
I watched that show for about ummm 5 minutes last night. I can't believe she owns her own gym and is a personal trainer who is OUT OF SHAPE!!! Never watching that show again. OK off my soapbox!
On an AMAZING note, I ran 3 miles this morning!!! I really kicked my butt into high gear. My friend Becky and the hubby suggested drinking gatorade to help combat the cramps. It really did the trick today. I'm really shooting for running 3 miles this whole week and not copping out LOL! My arm tracks went good -- almost ready to bump up my weight. Also, I've been debating about just working out 7 days a week. I'm finally getting back into "beast" mode where I just need to workout everyday. We'll see how I do fitting it in this week.

Thank the heavens for the PACKERS!
I usually look forward to Sunday's because it's like my Monday (Ray's schedule). This morning started out great. Ray came home early, cleaned the house and I got to use my new slatkin co. candle - winter night (AH-mazing). Today is my normal off day from the gym, but it seriously feels like I just ran a marathon. I am soo mentally exhausted. This is going to be a very LONG year of JP fighting his naps :( JP was awful today. Of course, he doesn't fight them when daddy puts him down. At least the Packers won!!!! WOOOOHOOO :) 7-0 (not since 1962)....Also, I know that Ray ordered my Mathews jersey and some xmas presents tonight from nflshop.com. That definitely helped my mood LOL! Uh, I just feel blah.

Soup, Salad and a hike
First things first...the last day I stepped on the scale was Wednesday the 19th. The previous week I weighed in at 137, so it was great to see another pound bite the dust - 136!
I know some people reading this are like whoa whoa she's 136 that's already a good weight. I'm only 5'2, so it's still a lot for a petite frame.
This blog is a continuation from my life horizontal which was all about my life on bed rest. I recently stopped pumping for the twinkies (about 2 weeks ago) and have been hitting the gym 5 days a week since I got the "OK" at my 6 week postpartum visit at the end of September. Well I really try to go 5 days a week, this past week I only made it 4 days -- my x-ray at the dentist on Thursday took longer than expected.
I was really hoping to get in the gym this morning especially after I drank quite a few mai tai's last night. I'm not even going to think of how many calories I drank -- HAHA! I was just enjoying the fact that I can consume alcoholic beverages again since I'm not pumping anymore ;-)! To my dismay though, I woke up with a horrible scratchy throat this morning. Instead of heading to the gym, we all went out to Centennial Park and walked around the lake. Of course it was super slow because JP's only 3, but it still counts! Ray and I had a nice relaxing walk. He really wants to start working out too. His schedule is just (well for lack of a better phrase) cray-cray! He's an ex-cross country runner which is the COMPLETE & UTTER opposite of me. I ONLY run for punishment. Now I have forced myself to start running, because I'm getting rid of my pooch from carrying the twinkies and my saddle bags! Well if I'm going to be "honest", another reason is one of my best friends, Liesel, started running and is now amazing at it. I told myself if she can do it, then come on I can do it too. (I got her back into working out a couple years ago - so I take the credit for unleashing the "beast"). I have to give myself props though, because hell has frozen over. Last Wednesday, I actually ran 2.55 miles (5.5mph). Even though I felt like I was going to die, I did it. I don't think this coming week I'll bump up to 6mph yet. I was really struggling at 5.5mph. Ray likes to remind me that even though he's very out of shape he still warms up at a 5.5 mph. Ovay! That's probably why I don't like running because I'm awful at it, and I like to be the best at everything. I'm the crazy lady in the back stomping my feet on the treadmill and crazily lip-syncing to the songs on my IPod (it helps me forget the pain). It's kinda like Phoebe from friends but a little less arm action LOL! My love really is weightlifting though which, I am awesome at! My strength though is pretty much gone in my legs. My arms are still decent after the bed rest though. That's what is really going to take a long time -- getting my strength back. I do feel that the combination of both running and mixing in body pump tracks of arms one day & legs the next has been working great.
*Before I was a surrogate, I was en route to become a Les Mills Body Pump instructor, so I have 4 of the releases that now I just use for myself*
Most importantly though, I've been keeping my eating in check. Hey, I'm a Wisconsin girl and know how to eat! I really just work out a lot, so I can eat -- well when I'm at goal weight. I'll definitely be posting a food journal here as well. Just wait till Halloween's here and I tell you how many of JP's reese's cups I ate -- keeping it real!
Stats for today :
1. walked 2.6 miles this morning with the family
2. pedometer as of 2:15pm - 9960 steps
Food:
1. coffee w/splenda & fat free half and half
2. soup & salad at Olive Garden, 2 bread sticks & half a caramel hazelnut macchiato (nonfat milk)
3. (no dinner yet but it's just left overs so I'll add it) meat loaf, home made mashed potatoes and homemade mac and cheese w/water to drink*
